DiLeonardo Breathes New Life into Previously Devastated Hotel – The Morgan
Award-winning interior architectural design firm, DiLeonardo immersed themselves in the rich culture of St. Maarten to create a truly authentic and luxurious escape, The Morgan Resort & Spa.
From the port cochere, the guest is greeted with a framed ocean view, creating a visual pathway through the lobby, past the terrace and pool and onto the ocean beyond. A sculptural water feature summons the many senses of island life and a luxurious stay. Simple, clean, modern materials and textures are seen throughout the property. Natural wood and a relaxed color palette are cues to the region and a response to the modern vernacular. The color indigo makes a strong statement, representative of the rich, yet casual, and eclectic environment awaiting the guest. As the guest enters the lobby, they encounter a light and airy space with a monolithic reception, light sculpture, coffee bar, and comfortable and casual, flexible seating inviting them to stay a while. Large ceiling fans contribute to the flow of air and warm ocean breezes. From the exterior arrival, through the lobby and out to the pool terrace beyond, the subtle movement of the wood feature ceiling evokes the movement of wind and water. Materials and textures were strategically selected to withstand the island climate including high winds and salt erosion. Each guestroom has its own exterior private entrance and balcony. Like the public space, clean and minimalistic language, and natural tones with a statement of indigo are found. A yacht deck teak expression is seen at the headboard and millwork. Custom, printed shadow palm leaves grace the drapery. Clean lines, modern furniture and millwork were carefully selected and detailed to allow each guest to interact with their rooms efficiently and comfortably. Sleeper sofas were strategically placed to accommodate families and respond to market demands. The guest is treated to a luxurious spa-like bathroom with the statement-colored mosaic wall accent. With a total of 124 guestrooms and suites, The Morgan Resort & Spa is now taking reservations starting June 1, 2021.
