Our design renovation incorporated the suites, meeting rooms and ballroom in lavish style to evoke the 1907 structure’s original ambiance. The firm worked within architectural and historical constraints to restore the elegance and sophistication for which The Plaza is known. The historical gem at Fifth Avenue and Central Park has been a star in various movies and is known for its grandeur. The Plaza was featured in Cotton Club, the Great Gatsby and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It was important to the designers and operators that The Plaza preserves its famous history during a massive renovation.
The Plaza kept a fabulous treasure trove in archives which we incorporated into the design to restore in proper style. The designer had to consider the historical elements these old photos provided of the ballroom from the turn of the century. The biggest challenges to the design team were budget, delivery and durability. The suites were designed with many different guests in mind, an interesting combination of people: diplomats, captains of industry, heads of state, corporate business people, high-end leisure business and people who have always dreamed of staying at The Plaza. In keeping with tradition dating to 1907, the rich colors and fabrics of the renovated Plaza suites, meeting room and ballroom now ooze luxury and history.
